Pat's entire professional life has been devoted to helping and healing. She began her career as the Calhoun County Public Health Nurse. This was Pat's first experience with home care, and the people and cases she encountered colored her view of health care from then out. She was convinced the value of care in the home, but also aware of the challenges to provide care well.
Pat served in many areas in the health care field before receiving her degree as an Adult Nurse Practitioner with a Masters In Nursing in 1999 from Andrews University, Berrien Springs, Michigan. Pat is a Community Educator of Dementia Capable Care, teaching others about the disease and how to work with the challenges that the disease presents. This program also allows members of our community to become certified in Dementia Care.
Pat has had the opportunity to share her education and experience teaching and mentoring nursing students at Kellogg Community College, Battle Creek, Michigan.
Pat is also a successful entrepreneur having started and operated many businesses, and also assisting others with their business startups. In 1993, Pat and Thom Unger began Home Health Professionals, a pioneer in the field of home health care. She and Thom sold their business in 2005.
In 2013, Pat and Thom teamed up again to open HomeCare Transitions. A business built on a combined 65 years of experience in providing quality care in the home.
Pat and her husband Bill have been married for over 54 years, and have two sons.
Experience like this is very hard to come by. It's one more reason that you may trust HomeCare Transitions to care for your family.
"If ever there's a question as to what you should do, always do the very best thing you can for our client."
These are the words of Thomas J. Unger, Co-Founder and President/CEO of HomeCare Transitions, Battle Creek. More than words, they reflect his personal and professional philosophy, and form the foundation on which HomeCare Transitions was begun.
Thom Unger's service to the elderly and those in need began in 1986 when he helped develop creative housing solutions for seniors while with Village Green Management in Farmington Hills, Michigan. In 1993, he co-founded Home Health Professionals Inc., a well-known private duty home care agency located in Battle Creek. Later, he served as Executive Director for Arcadia Healthcare, a national, publically traded company focused on the provision of homecare and medical staffing, in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Returning to Battle Creek, Thom re-introduced Private Duty Services at Lifespan, Inc., in Battle Creek and elevated to Chief Operating Officer and finally Chief Executive Officer overseeing their continued growth. Thom assisted in the transition during Lifespan's acquisition by Bronson Health Care Group.
HomeCare Transitions was borne out of that breadth and depth of experience combined with a personal calling to serve those in need. The organization is family centered, based on personal and corporate integrity and family values.
"...always do the very best you can for our clients...and when in doubt, always do the right thing!"
Mr. Unger serves on the Policy Board of the Region 3B Area on Agency, now known as CareWell Services Southwest Michigan.
He and Victoria, his wife of thirty three years, have adopted two children, Benjamin, who was adopted from Guatemala and Juliana adopted from China.
